Burns named Edgecombe interim superintendent
Former Wake County schools Superintendent Del Burns has been named the interim superintendent for Edgecombe County schools, the school system announced Wednesday.
The Edgecombe County Board of Education said Burns will start Oct. 1. He takes over from Superintendent Wayne Talley who announced his resignation on Aug. 1.
Burns led the Wake County school system for four years. He resigned when the school board moved from a diversity-based student assignment plan to a community-based model.
“We are extremely pleased to have such a seasoned and respected educational leader in Edgecombe County to help advise and work with this board to assure a smooth transition for our employees while providing the students in our county the best education possible,” board ChairwomanAnn Kent said in a statement.
Burns also served as the interim superintendent last year for the Alamance-Burlington School System.
