USciences Plays Host to Delegation From China’s SFDA

 

University of the Sciences played host to a delegation representing the China State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) on Monday, Dec. 19, 2011. After participating in a 10-day educational training program at Yale University, the delegation is touring pharmaceutical industry related institutions such as USciences, Novartis, FDA New Jersey District Office, Drug Information Association (DIA), and the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).

We heard about this University, its the first (school of) pharmacy in the United States. Most of our members (have) a pharmacy background, said Dr. Youchun Wang, Deputy Director-General of the National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC) of the SFDA (and pictured at left). In the last 10 days, we studied at a retreat at Yale University about drug investigations.

Announcing the K12 and Girl Scouts I Want to Rock the Mall YouTube contest!

Did you know that next year marks the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts? 100 years of helping girls develop confidence, build character and volunteering to make the world a better place. More than 50 million American women have been a girl scout during their childhood— including me! I have fond memories of earning badges at the local park, attending summer camps, making craft projects, earning my badges and doing all sorts of service projects. Today, I get to witness my own 9 year old daughter discover the fun and empowerment of this great organization.

To help mark this momentus occassion, we are sponsoring a K¹² and Girl Scouts “Rock the Mall”  YouTube contest. Volunteer Thespians Perform Shakespeare’s ‘Measure for Measure’ on Sun Sounds of Arizona

In the 1940s Americans gathered around their radios for family entertainment. Then the visually-stimulating television era came along, relegating once-popular radio dramas to the closets and hard drives of specialty collectorswith one exception: our nationwide community of people with visual impairments.

On January 7, Sun Sounds of Arizona, a radio service for the visually impaired, will present its newest Radio Theater selection, Shakespeares Measure for Measure, produced entirely by a volunteer cast and crew and directed by Valley theater critic M.V. Moorhead.

Ive loved this play for years, says Moorhead, who directed a full production of it at Southwest Shakespeare Company in 2000. Several cast members from that production have reprised their roles for this hour-long Sun Sounds Radio Theater version.

Director Moorhead is no stranger to Sun Sounds Radio Theater, this being his sixth directorial production for the radio reading service. Read full article…

Last-minute changes proposed for Wake student assignment plan

Just two weeks before Wake County’s new student assignment plan is set to take effect, some school board members said they’re not comfortable supporting it and proposed last-minute changes.

Three newly elected board members, all Democrats, joined the rest of the board Tuesday afternoon for a work session to discuss questions and concerns surrounding the new choice-model plan, which was approved in October when Republican members had the majority.

The plan passed 7-2, with “no” votes coming from Kevin Hill and Keith Sutton, who now hold the chair and vice chair seats on the board.

Parents are supposed to begin ranking school choices on Jan.

Jesuit’s Father Kelly Tribute will be a NorCal showcase

Saturday’s 10th annual Father Kelly Tribute at Jesuit High School will feature four games involving some of Northern California’s top boys basketball players and six teams ranked in the NorCal Top 20 by NorCalPreps.com.

The Father Kelly event has become a good midseason barometer of how some of the area’s teams stack up with those from the Bay Area.

NorCalPreps’ No. 4 Jesuit will play No. 9 Newark Memorial (7-4) in the 7:30 p.m. marquee finale. Jesuit defeated Newark Memorial 50-49 in the Gridley tournament earlier this season.

The first game is at 3 p.m. with No. 11 Franklin taking on No. 20 Freedom of Oakley (9-3), followed by No. 16 Deer Valley of Antioch (9-4) against Foothill at 4:30; and No. 8 Pleasant Grove playing Berkeley (3-5) at 6 p.m.

Berkeley is led by Oregon State scholarship signee Langston Morris-Walker, who is rated No.
