Thursday, April 28, 2011 was the annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. 58 K¹² employees’ kids, ranging from grades 1 through 12, participated in fun activities, listened to speakers and worked together for a group service leadership project.  This year’s theme was appreciation for our military members and their families to coincide with April as the Month of the Military Child.

The Month of the Military Child is “set aside to honor and celebrate the significance and resilience of military children and youth. Military families face many unique challenges and many times their children experience frequent moves, new schools, new friends, long deployments, and much more. Through all of these challenging experiences, military children learn to be flexible and adaptable. Whether they know it or not, they contribute to unit readiness and mission success for their military parents. They develop character and courage, and make sacrifices daily.”

As part of the day’s service leadership project , the children wrote letters to active soldiers and put together care packages composed of employee donations, including snacks, magazines, games, and toiletries. A total of 27 care packages were created by the children using our employees’ donations.

The day was a great success and ended with a special lunch, where the kids were joined by their parents.

All of us at K¹² recognize the great sacrifices military families make and the unique daily challenges they face. We have many military families currently attending K¹² schools who have found online education to be the right option for them.
