Longshore unions award 48 scholarships
South Bay. The International Longshore and Warehouse Unions 13, 63 and 94, along with the pensioners, recently awarded scholarships to 48 students from Los Angeles and Long Beach high schools. The students were chosen by their high school counselors based on academic performance, leadership, community involvement and an essay on Harry Bridges, who founded the ILWU.
Scholarship recipients from the South Bay and Harbor Area are: Kayla Green, Daniela Lopez and Victoria Perez of Port of Los Angeles High School; Young Choi, Taylor Eastburn and Jason Weiss of Torrance High School; Catherine Chen, Megan Stewart and Christina Gunzenhauser of Palos Verdes High School; Joseph Conovaloff, Katherine Bailey and Maria Peltekova of Palos Verdes Peninsula High School; Sergio Estrada, Spencer Angle and Kellie Liu of Mary Star of the Sea; Scarlet Martinez, Yazmine Mihojevich and Marina Petrich of San Pedro High School; Deniza Sabio, Martha Delatorre and Justine Pascual of Carson High School; Alyssa Munson, Yhardfah Tiemsanjai and Alein Haro of Narbonne High School; Scott Koppenhauer, Ashley Oshiro and Jayson Madrigal of Bishop Montgomery High School; and Selene Castillo, Maribel Mendoza and Lisette Torres of Banning High School.
