Traditional wooden toys have never been more popular and perhaps the most popular wooden toy for generations has to be the wooden building block. Is it the colours or shapes that make them so appealing to kids? Or is it the way they can be used for building towers and knocking them straight down again? It could just be the fact that they are so versatile – they can be used with just about every other toy in the toy box. Whether they’re a bale that needs to be loaded onto the haystack by the toy tractor or a grocery item that needs to be sold in the toy shop, or even if they are a lovely slice of cake produced by the ever productive wooden play kitchen, wooden blocks are an essential for any childhood toy chest or nursery. In fact, although they appear to be so basic to us adults, to a child they are the foundations for so many learning and motor skills and will be a treasured toy throughout their early years.
